AutoMode without RC #526

From reading the documentation it appears that the only way to use automode is 
to initialize it using an RC.  Is this a correct assumption and is there any 
workaround?  I understand the issue of potential "accidental" flights but I'm 
attempting to make a fully autonomous "fleet" of quadrotors and not having a 
required RC launch would make things much easier.  Thanks!
