unable to use ext. GPS #742

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.disable on-board GPS
2.plug in ext. GPS in GPS/UART1 slot
3.connect to computer

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
on mission planner after hitting connect, screen should be "no fix" (doing it 
in door) but instead it is still "No GPS" same as when i just disabled built-in 
GPS.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
APM2.0  
Mission Planner 1.2.11
ArduPlane V2.60
on window 7

Please provide any additional information below.
GPS is 20 Channel EM-406A SiRF III Receiver
