Cannot connect to phone services (over wifi) when OpenVPN active

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. connect to vpn server over wifi
2. try to connect to phone over wifi (Servers Ultimate Pro)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
does not connect, times out

What version of the product are you using?
latest per google play

Which Android phone are you using?
Galaxy Note 3 rooted

Which firmware version are you using?
kitkat 4.4.2

Please provide any additional information below.
Servers Ultimate Pro includes a number of servers. Thus far it seems to effect 
anything. Configuration in SUP allows specifying the interface. Problem occurs 
whether I set any given service to use the WAN port specifically or to accept 
incoming connections on 'all'. If I disconnect OpenVPN, SUP again works as 
designed.

I did some additional testing on a curiousity. I am able to connect back from 
the remote system into the phone if Servers Ultimate Pro is set to either 'all' 
or 'tun0' as the interface it connects through. But still unable to connect 
locally via the wifi connection to any services. (the primary one I am worried 
about is ssh)
