I tested the current dev version on iPad with iOS 4.3.1. Everything works fine.
I tested on not jailbreak device.

You could enable log level to detailed. And post here or send me the file
(log.txt).
The file should be write in /var/mobile/Documents.

So could you test when I release the 3.9.9 version?

It also works fine for me on iPad 1 with iOS 4.3.1. Mine is jailbroken, of
course.

I get the above error when I try to start Siphon 3.9.8 on jailbroken iPhone 4
with iOS 4.3.1.

Siphon 3.9.8 worked fine on both jailbroken iPhone 4 and iPad 1 with iOS 4.2.1.

I'll send you log file later in the day.

No problem about testing version 3.9.9.

I have enabled log level to detailed. But I can't find log file in
/var/mobile/Documents.

Is there any other folder that I can look for log file?

I also have no log files in the location listed above. When is 3.9.9 being
released?

It worked with iOS 4.2.1 on all devices.
It seems Siphon 3.9.8 with iOS 4.3.1:
    - doesn't work on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G.
    - works on iPad 1

I need to find a device to test this configuration.

I tried Siphon on iPod touch 4G with iOS 4.3.1 and everything works fine.
Tomorrow I will jailbreak to test it.

I released a new beta version 3.9.9, it should work now.
Maybe you need to delete com.googlecode.siphon in
/var/mobile/Library/Preferences.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I deleted the preferences file then installed 3.9.9. I am still having the same
problem. Still no log file.

I have also killed and uninstalled Siphon, deleted preference files, restarted
iPhone, reinstalled and configured Siphon.

Same error again.

Could you tell me what is the version number ? (look in the settings)
I don't reproduce your issue with 3.9.9 :-(

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Yeah for sure3.9.9
This error only happens when it tries to connect. If i disable my sip account
it will stop the error some coming and will return when I enable the account
again.
I noticed I also get error when I click on Recents:
Fatal database error: Unable to initialize database: The operation couldn't be
completed(Cocoa error 513.)

Could the root of this be a permissions issue? No log file? unable to
initialize database or Could no start sip agent?
Are there certain file/folder permissions I can maybe check that are required
by Siphon?
Maybe it's something old related to this. I have had my phone for a long time
and in the early IOS 4.1 days I did enjoy older version of siphon. Would there
be any files left over from that or do the jail breaked programs all get
cleared on IOS upgrades?

Hey! I think we are off to a good start. The fold that the log file is supposed
to be in only has write access to root. I have gave it write access to everyone
and then reloaded siphon.

I now have log.txt and CoreDataSiphon.sqlite in that folder. When I open the
siphon no more error. It says connecting then goes unavailable. no pop up
error. I am going to check my settings to make sure I got it 100%

I can confirm I am 100% up and running after changing the permissions.
I added write permissions to /var/mobile/Documents . It was set to write only
for root. I used ifile to add write access to group(mobile) and the World.
I have fixed an issue with my settings and now am 100% up and running.

I think part of starting the sip user agent is creating the log file? even at
no logging i noticed it even creates an empty log.txt file still.

Good news. It's very weird, because application should be run with mobile
account right. And the directory right of /var/mobile should be allow to write
in the tree.

Maybe it's an issue from jailbreak

Thanks all for the info.
Here is how I have fixed mine. Logged on my 3GS with PuTTY(make sure changing
the default password)

iPhone:~ root# chown -R mobile /var/mobile/Documents/

On my device the path: /var/mobile/Documents/ seems that doesn't exist.
Here is my commands:
  cd /var/mobile
  mkdir Documents
  chown mobile Documents

Fixed in 3.9.10

I still have this issue with 3.9.10. Do i need to do some manual change of
permissions to make it work?

Original comment by berne...@googlemail.com on 15 Apr 2011 at 5:51

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
3.9.10 worked when I upgraded my already fixed 3.9.9. I uninstalled 3.9.10,
reverted my folder permissions to how I found them when 3.9.9 wasn't working
and deleted the 2 files siphon created. Installed 3.9.10 and same problem. It
appears your script didn't affect the permissions of my folder. I think your
script will only work as root. My documents folder owner is root and your
script didn't change that.

I installed version 3.9.11 fine on a iOS 4.3.2 jailbroken but
after a restoration with iTunes at same os level 4.3.2 (then re-jailbreak),
this error occurred (version 3.9.11).
The rights were : drwxr-xr-x 3 root mobile 102 May 3 20:07 Documents/
the command (as root) "chown -R mobile /var/mobile/Documents/" solved the issue.

You can fix the permissions with ifile. you don't need to ssh into your iphone.

Original comment by ch...@mihachris.com on 27 May 2011 at 7:19

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
yup it worked with ifile, strangely the problem didnt go away even with 3.9.13
but ifile fixed it, also to be noted that the ifile in installous is older
version and dosnt give the access to system files strangely ... have to install
it via cydia and is a shareware now.

this could be unrelated question, but can i just dl the G729a codec and install
it in other sip phone/s directories to use it?
