python.plw imports python25.dll, so it will work with Python 2.5.x and it
should be
able to find python25.dll (add python's dir to PATH environment variable).

The project page indicates that idapython now works with Python 2.7. But I'm
also having this issue. Is there a way to fix this without having to install a
previous version of Python?

The idapython-1.4.2 is not at the "download page", only 1.4.1 is available.
Yet the main page says the current version is 1.4.2
I don't know how to compile with SVN, maybe someone else can compile the source
and put it up for download
