There was an idea suggested in the old thread, which linked to this post: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?665317-Title-Localisations-for-Ancient-Egyptians&p=14994877&viewfull=1#post14994877
a Coptic or just anti-Islamic [maybe even with a new Egypt based state pagan cult] Egyptian, nipping off into the desert and re-creating and adopting pre-conquest Egyptian culture to legitimise his invasion event of Egypt, setting himself up as a Ptolemy and heir to Pharaohs in order to challenge the caliphs for Cairo.
I love that idea! Perhaps an event chain beginning with rumors of a charismatic man preaching the old ways throughout the rural areas of the realm. You can ignore him, confront him, or invite him for tea. Certain decisions could result in (or at least have some random list of outcomes) the leader being neutralized as a threat, brought into your court (with a couple possible events here too), made into a martyr (possibly triggering an uprising?), or rising up in rebellion against you.
I dig it! Its a great place to start. Hopefully over time we can come up with 2 or 3 revival chains for each (Celtic already has three, not including the Gone Pagan decision).
A second event chain, from jbelig: The idea is a decision to let's say visit the ancient pyramids. During the visit something 'magical' happens (you hear voices, see a light maybe) that urges you to move on. You lose your companions and get lost in there. Then 3 options:
You stay lost (die) One of your companions finds you and you get out (end of story, nothing else happens) Something else finds you (not a running mummy, the spirit of a pharaoh I suppose) and offers you enlightement. On 3rd option you get some more: You chase the spirit away (find your way out as well with a small chance of dying again maybe, or stressed or wounded) You listen to the spirit and decide to embrace the old gods.
A more basic event would be to find a pocket of Kemetics that simply survived in some isolated Oasis (after getting lost in the desert for instance). I'm going to take a shot at these, and see where it goes !
So, I can't believe it took me THIS LONG to think of it; but... ....I had an idea for an easy revival event chain which could apply to almost any of the religions/cultures. I feel kinda stupid it didn't occur to me before. One of the things that becomes apparent looking on wikipedia is that, though most 'ancient religions' are dead today, among isolated corners of the peasantry, a number of them survived well, well past the CK2 timeline. Like, for example, if you look up ishtar/innanna on wikipedia, apparently it didn't die off until the freaking --18th century--!!! ...and that particular faith's fall very much predates anything else we are discussing here.
So I saw that and did some poking... and though the last record of organized neo-kemetic (or hellenic-kemetic) religion we have is mid to late 7th century, the islamics claim they were putting down peasant rebels worshipping Isis as late as the 15th century... I'm not sure I believe that; but if you look at where other faiths, such as the Jews, the Gnostics, etc. were rebelling, its clear that "rebel peasant leaders" were prone to being members of small, marginalized groups that mainstream nobility and clergy had dismissed, ignored, and considered irrelevant for extremely long periods of time.
So, as an alternative event chain, why not just take some of your faiths and cultures, and add in some extra "peasant rebellion" events, where the leaders are members of an otherwise extinct religion/culture? MOST OF THEM would still be put down as per normal, or they'd succeed and convert...but there'd be a chance of them succeeding and not converting. And it would be entirely, 100% historically plausible.
We need to brainstorm how this chain should work. Preferably it should be distinct from the Hellenic and Druidic chains.
