- Infrared camera
- Depth camera
- Thermal image camera
- Normal camera
Out of all these methods the only viable method is using a normal camera and detecting the difference in light. All the other methods do not provide a (clear) difference in the video feed, mainly caused by the diffusion and thickness of the plexiglass. More cameras should be investigated as a normal camera (not widespread) can only detect hands on the lower part and not the top.
At the moment we make use of a TTP223 touch sensor. It works the same as a regular button. This sensor is easily hidden within the tube and capable of recognizing touch through the acrylic glass. However, this approach is not scalable and can be seen through the acrylic glass.
Look into touch recognition using a camera within the pillar looking up (not down into the light).
