strange behaviour when changing the hyphenchar

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. change the hyphencharacter with any string 

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The hyphen character should only appear at the end of the line, but instead 
appears everywhere between the line. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Hyphenator Version 4.2
Chrome 29
