Hello, Peter.
I am an administrator of BestGems.org. Thank you for your comment.
I interested in the problem which is caused by a gem version changes too. Just as I am considering renewal of BestGems.org. Likely, new version BestGems.org will draw the date on which the gem was released on charts.
Does this change satisfy your needs?
That would be most useful and should give me the information I need for my research. Thank you for creating such an excellent web site and for replying to my request so quickly.
I will try to release the new BestGems.org :-)
Over a year gone by, any news?
@PeterCamilleri Sorry for the wait. I have not forgotten your request. However, due to career change and other reasons, I have not spent enough time developing the bestgems.
It is my observation that whenever a gem version is released, there is a spike in downloads, most likely from bots and mirrors.
It would very useful to be able to see how often a gem has been versioned because it would make it much easier to discriminate between version churn and "organic" growth.
In my own studies, I plot downloads per version. Manually :-(
