Debian Linux Failed To Build No Target To Make #111

As outlines in the previous two closed issues, the people that made them simply closed them without providing how they got around the error. From my understanding it has to do with my compiler version not matching the version that the original file was built with? (See: https://www.microchip.com/forums/FindPost/782653)

So, I'm not so good at compiling things in linux and I'm trying to figure it all out. Can someone help me or at least point me in the right direction?
