Conversations disappearing on send to new conversation #235

Observed Behavior: Using xmtp.chat: When sending a message to a contact I have not messaged before, all previous conversations are removed from the left hand pane.

Expected Behavior: Old conversations are still visible and the new conversation is added to the top

Notes: Repeatable across multiple browsers (Brave, chrome, firefox) no relevant console logs
