freedesktop.org have created an alternative tool: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/freedesktop/bztogl
It does not map users, but it seems that it does not require sudo (see issue #16) and can be used to port projects to gitlab.com.
Please add a link to readme to help other users discover it.
