IPv6 reachability not tested #57

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to IPv6 Internet via HE, Cogent, or Level3 ISP.
2. From HE, visit Cogent or Level3 website. From Cogent or Level3, visit HE
website.
3. Connection tries IPv6, times out, fails back to IPv4. ShowIP still shows
that it was done via IPv6.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected would be that IPv6 is unreachable.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Firefox 3.6.17, Fedora 14.

Please provide any additional information below.
Only doing DNS lookups for a site to determine IPv6 connectivity is not a valid
test. A reachability test should be performed as well. If it fails, it should
indicate that an IPv6 version of the site is available, but unreachable.

HE does not have an IPv6 peering agreement with Cogent or Level3. He cannot
route traffic to either of these ISPs. Neither of these ISPs can route traffic
to HE.

That's why it's called showip nowadays. There are plenty of sites to check your
v6 connectivity.
