Referencing sample in robot workflow #110

We also need to keep some flexibility with sample management. Each sample/position pair is identified by at least any 2 of:

  1. Name/bt.list() number

  2. Sample bar code

  3. Sample holder bar code

  4. Location of sample in magazine

Users might prepare the magazine in their lab, or in the field. Users might know 1 and 4, or 1 and 3. Users might not be able to determine 2. Not sure whether sample holders should always be shipped to the users prior to the experiment.

I'm going to move this off the milestone since (1, 4) has been implemented. Implementing the others is important, but most likely not going to be ready for this cycle.

Let's leave this for now. (1,4) is implemented. I would like to persuade @dooryhee to maybe have John Trunk or someone work on the hardware side of getting a QR code reader/webcam that is capable of reading the sample-holder QR codes.

I believe that this is important functionality in the long run, so it would be really great to have it working.

All sample holders can be loaded (w/ or w/o the samples) in the magazine and the robot can make the inventory and deliver the list of (QR codes, sample positions). Is that sufficient, or you think we need an off-line system? It goes back to the use case: 1) the users know where they locate the samples in the magazine; or 2) the user determines the QR code of the sample holder for each and every sample they load. Most probably some users will go by #1, others by #2. That also impacts the management of the spreadsheet. E

@dooryhee it is really just an equipment question right now....getting a desktop camera with high enough resolution to read the sample holder QR codes that are very small. On Thu, Aug 2, 2018 at 1:47 PM dooryhee notifications@github.com wrote:
