[Linux] Audio input and output stop working after a few minutes #119

xPilot connects to vatsim normally and works as expected for 2-5 minutes. I'm able to recieve and transmit, and others are able to hear me and see my aircraft. After a handful of minutes (not the same amount of time every time) the audio simply stops and I can no longer transmit or recieve. I will still get text messages in the console, and can issue dot commands such as .wx.

I ran xPilot via the terminal and copied the output here:

The first underrun occurred error happened about a minute into listening to the local ATIS, and without touching anything else, everything following that line occurred when the audio cut out.

I will be happy to provide more info if needed.

Are you able to consistently reproduce this issue? What distro of Linux?

Yes, every time.

And sorry, Mint 20.3. X-Plane 11.55, running either OpenGL or Vulkan. It happened with Beta 34 and also happens in Beta 35.

How did you select your input/output? Have you selected default, pulse, pipewire(and then chose the routing via the usual sound mixing app) or the device directly?

(I selected pipewire in xPilot and did the routing/device selection via my desktop environment's [KDE] sound applet)

Hm, you should have pulseaudio in Mint.

Are these errors on the console appearing when the audio is stopping, or also earlier, for example when you open the settings dialog?

I am not familiar with xPilot's inner workings, but it seems to have problems enumerating the audio devices. Do you have problems in other audio apps?

EDIT: There is something mentioned in the Mint 20.3 release notes but I doubt that it will get you further (pavucontrol is just a fancy pulseaudio manager applet - you should have most of its functions already).

I just set this up today and ALSA seems to be working for me - been flying for over half an hour.

Beta 37 seems to have fixed the issue! It seems to have introduced a new one relating to network aircraft engine sounds, but that's another issue (and an easy workaround for now). I'll do a little testing with it before submitting.
