Allow update-docs to be run on forks #172

I missed these 2 PRs somehow, I added them to our project so we can tackle it in vscode's debt week (week of 1st of August)

@Tyriar ; could you get this one merged sometime soon? Docs are outdated and it's not easy to update them from a fork.
