You can define SIP URI in your address book (see issue 97).
But be careful to issue 145 :-(

I will work on this issue.

Now I see your point.

The issue is two faced:
1) I cannot enter directly URL in the keypad. This you can possibly work on..
2) Adobe and Microsoft should allow people enter generic sip urls as phone
numbers in
outlook/iphone. Actually with my e61i that was (kind of working), so it's
possibly
mostly an issue with Apple, that mangles 12345@xxx.com numbers.

If you define sip url in your address book in web site field, you can call
someone
with alphanumeric address.
You can't define anywhere else(web site field) because I believe iphone forbids
to
define URL in another field.

yeah, that was what i meant. I agree that works, i also think that's pretty
limiting
as it's bascially hijacking a field that is meant for other purposes and it let you
have a single sip phone number.

But I have tried it and it works

One last point. It's possible to make calls by adding a sip uri in the web site
field, however:

1) Calling by touching the field seem to only work once.
2) Calls placed this way appear on the recent list with just the initial field
(in my
case i was calling number@example.com. The full url should be possibly
displayed in
the recent list...?

My comments:
1/ look issue 145
2/ In the recent list Siphon displays the name of the callee, logically when you
display the details, the field is blue. But I believe it doesn't work for URL.
