Siphone fails to initialize speaker and microphone #177

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When starting Siphone, I can't hear anything and the other end can't hear
anything. When I start
iTalk and instantly quit it again and start Sipphone again, it works. It seems
iTalk initializes the
microphone and speaker correctly. However, when I lock the phone and start
Siphone again, I
don't hear anything again. I have to start iTalk again, quit it and then
Siphone works again. This is
really, really annoying, especially as iTalk is a shareware that only works for
15 days. IMO, it's a
real blocker.

iphone OS version ?
siphon version ?

Latest for both, that is iPhone OS 2.2.1 and Siphone 2.0.6 (also happened with
2.0.5).
It seems like it's a volume problem. I can't hear anything without the iTalk
trick,
but if I say something and shout into it really loud, the other end can hear
really,
really, really quiet noise.

Hm, the comment disappeared, but I'll reply anyway as those questions were good
and answering them might
help: I _DO_ hear the DTMF tones, but don't hear anything when calling.
Rebooting the device does not help -
it does the opposite, If I reboot, I can't hear anything again, I have to start
iTalk first - just like it is when the
iPhone is locked and unlocked again.

Sorry, i removed my comment because I realised that I was having a different
issue.
And I also _DO_ hear the DTMF tones but sometimes they are very quiet even when
the
volume is up max and other times they are really loud.

Can you try Siphon 2.0.5 instead? I was having strange issues with 2.0.6, your
problem might be related (see issue 146).

Yes, the volume of the DTMF tones is varying, it seems a little bit louder when
I started iTalk before, but it's
always hearable, Can you try the iTalk trick, plz? As said before, the issue
also happens with 2.0.5.

jschleifer,

My problem only appeared in 2.0.6 and is described in issue 146.

I don't have italk (i did but it expired and i won't buy it because they stole
code)
but i do have the PennytelMobile app and I tried that before calling on Siphon
and it
did not fix the problem.

My problem is definitely new in 2.0.6. The fact that you also had issues with
2.0.5
indicates that you are experiencing a different issue.

Do you have an iphone 3G or an original iphone? (I have a 3G). It sounds like a
hardware-related issue however I don't think you can rule out a NAT problem.
Have you
tried this on other WLANs? Is it possible that italk is setting up a NAT entry
that
Siphon is then using?

Also are you running any 'hacks' from Cydia? Backgrounder? Anything that hooks
into
MobileSubstrate?

You don't need to buy iTalk, just launching it is enough. I guess it will even
work when it expired.
My iPhone is an iPhone Classic. This is definitely not a NAT problem as it
works when I started iTalk and
instantly terminated it again. And it's not a NAT problem as the call is
running and the connection established.
iTalk can't do anything regarding NAT an I don't have UPnP configured on the
box that acts as my router - I
prefer configuring it manually.
I'm running Backgrounder since 2.0.6, but without Backgrounder when I had
2.0.5, I had the same issue.
MobileSubstrate only adds the 5-row keyboard for me and some Safari hacks.

Its actually sounds like the same issue as issue 146 *before* it got hijacked
with
the new 2.0.6 issue (i.e. all the comments pre-March). The reporter was also on
iphone classic.
