PID_ERR #262

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Connect to OpenVPN
2.Use and app that uses the VPN, for example TinyCam

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Before KitKat OpenVPN would connect and work without issue. Now it drops off
shortly after launching an app. During the drop all network activity fails and
the 4G service disconnects. This issue only happens using the Verizon network.
Using WiFi works just fine

What mobile phone are you using?
Moto Razr HD Maxx

Which Android Version and stock ROM or aftermarket like cyanogenmod?
Verizon Stock 4.4.2

Please provide any additional information below.
When the connection drops the following log entry is registered:

That seems more like a generic OpenVPN issue and/or network related issue. Also
with the minimal log you provided I cannot guess what the real problem is.

On further testing issue is not confined to just OpenVPN for Android, other VPN
packages have the same problem. This may be an Android bug not OpenVPN for
Android.

Note that other VPN apps have illegally stolen the source code of this app and
could still be OpenVPN behaviour.

Tested with OpenVPN's own Android client, the issue persists. I may have to try
a hard reset and if that does not work root this phone.

hard resetting and rooting the the phone will probably not help at all.

I did not have an issue before the Kitkat update. I tried multiple OpenVPN
packages and they tripped up using every app I tried to use across the VPN. The
only common ground here is kitkat, maybe flashing back to jellybean will help.

A full log would be helpful.

The asterisks only mask public IPs and hosts. This log covers several drop and
reconnect cycles.

That log does not show the error you mentioned but another connection problem:

2014-07-01 13:48:39 [remote.********enterprises.com] Inactivity timeout
(--ping-restart), restarting

and

2014-07-01 13:49:58 write UDP []: Network is unreachable (code=101)

2014-07-01 13:51:57 [remote.********enterprises.com] Inactivity timeout
(--ping-restart), restarting

The error came up in this log. The data connection is dropping but not until
the vpn is established, unless the link has become completely unstable and only
the VPN is persistent enough to notice.

So you are telling me that when the link is being unstable, OpenVpn recognizes
that and warns you about that. That is excepted behaviour. Btw. OpenVpn for
Android should be able to drop your 4G connection. If it drops it is a bug in
your mobile/network provider.

I do not notice any issues in my other apps, but they also are not persistent
like VPN is. The more I research the less likely it is that your software is
the issue.
