Evolution of KafkaManager

Hi @patelh, do you know what evolution is upcoming in KafkaManager ? Since my last issue https://github.com/yahoo/kafka-manager/issues/481, you talk to Oath/Yahoo to move this project to an apache one and you'll need more features additions/requests to continue.

There are lots of features to add in KafkaManager especially move to new Kafka Java API and remove zookeeper dependency. Kafka is evolving well and try to remove all is external zookeeper dependencies in API and scripts. Furthermore we can add lots of new feature like

• a better partition assignement with brocker rack awareness
• the ability ot change the replica number of a topic
• catch new JMX metrics that Kafka use now instead of old one (https://docs.confluent.io/current/kafka/monitoring.html) and so on.

Currently KafkaManager is the only free opensource UI for Kafka and it will be too bad that community cannot help to evolving it.

@BDeus, Kafka Manager is not the only free opensource UI for Kafka. You can check the list here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/Ecosystem#Ecosystem-SearchandQuery I've also heard about KafkaHQ (HackerNews story and more suggestions there).
