I have created this issue to put here beta versions of the app and discuss bugs in them. The discussion of new and old features are still wellcomed in corresponding feeds

• an ability to set labels to individual articles (in the article screen context menu or by tap on article date or author in articles list or via article list item context menu)
• view articles with selected label
• when labels are set to the article it also goes to favourites, and vise versa, when all labels are removed from the article it loses its favourite state
• article list item context menu with Delete, Mark above as read, Mark all as read items
• long tap on the article text screen top/bottom scrolls to top/bottom of article text

Attention: label is a separate entity towards RSS tag. Article tags are set automatically from RSS source, but labels are managed manually

I suppose article labels give a great ability for quick search and systematisation of articles. Especially in favourites section which is commonly many times bigger than others feeds, that makes hard to find anything there

Once I’ve updated the HNR to the newest ver. it crashes every time I want to open an unread article. It does not crash if I want to open an already read Favorite article.

Should I attach the error log?

By the way. I tried to to make a release on Google Play and had to setup thу app status as "News app" https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9949730 .I said No, for I cant give a link that confirms my rights to publish the news (All news from all RSS channels :). So, I think that the days of HNR on Play Market are numbered...

Yes it works, the installation problem on Android 11 has been fixed, as well as the problem of custom fonts

Due to #713 app was devided into two version :

• with google play servises (GMS) use, which is needed for #684 (apk with google suffix) and
• FOSS ( free and open-source software) version, withiout GMS (apk with fdroid suffix).

In Github and Play Market I will release google version, but frdoid will build FOSS version

Beta 0.16.11 No text appears in the article window, I changed the fonts as well and it won't solve the problem.

I did tested the beta version 0.16.12 installing it right after the version 0.15.12 with already several RSS feeds in the app.

The version 0.16.12 runs more than the beta 0.16.9. It loads RSS feeds almost well showing article titles with its icons. But if I open any article in any feed for further reading then the app crashes immidiately. I did attached the crash report. crash.txt

I was testing v0.16.14 of the app. It works almost excellent! No crashes!

The one remained issue only (I was never mentioned it before) is that old articles are not removed from the device storage automatically as sheduled in the app settings and I'm removing they manually time to time from the 'images' and 'html' folders in 'feedex' folder.

A manual triggering the deletion of the data of old articles via the app menu works also.

So, there is the time sheduling does not work only. I have a setting to check new and old articles every 5 minutes and it does not work: neither checks new RSS from the internet nor checks old articles for deletion from the smartphone storage. Please, fix it for the app perfection.

Tested v 0.16.16: Many RSS feeds are not retrieved with the specific error indication. The screenshot attached. May the errors are due to the 0.16.16 version without Google Play services?

The version 0.16.16 of Handy News Reader with Google Play services works better.

UPDATE! The issue described below was probably not the issue of Handy News Reader app but the web-site fault. Sorry. The issue is that it can not retrieve RSS from the internet address 'https://www.sammobile.com/feed' of the popular web-site SamMobile showing a specific error while actually there is RSS feed at that address. The screenshots attached. The same issue was in the version 0.16.14.

Today RSS feed from SamMobile web-site works. So, it was not the issue of Handy News Reader app but the fault of the web-site RSS. Sorry.

I was testing the version 0.16.16 of Handy News Reader app for few days. Everything in this version of app is ok except the time sheduled functionality:

Automatic retrieving of new RSS and deleting of old articles according of sheduled time intervals does not work. At least it does not work for me with setting 5 minutes for both: for retrieve new and for check for delete old.

• app start up time reduced because the artilce count per feed calculation starts only after left feeds panel was swiped (shown), circle progress is shown during it
• main app icon pinned shortcuts added: Favoritites, Unread, Without feed. Long tap on main app icon to access them.
• custom feed refresh interval. We can now setup long default refresh interval in app settings to most feeds and set few feeds to be refreshed often.
• so this can dramtically reduce auto reshresh operation duration because the feed would be excluded from auto refresh openration if it has been refreshed recently (correspoding to its interval).
• every home screen shortcut (and pinned shortcuts) is starting in a separate task. You can switch between these tasks using system 'recents' screen. This provides an ability to have several indepenednt branches for reading different feeds or articles
• advanced settings - date format: show elapsed time instead of exact time
• during backup restore if user will not choose an app to select a file (no suitable app was found) and press back button, the internal file select dialog is showing to let the user choose a file from Downloads folder
• advanced settings - feeds ABC sort order (and for groups too)
