Route 53 is an “authoritative DNS” system. An authoritative DNS system provides an update mechanism that developers use to manage their public DNS names. It then answers DNS queries, translating domain names into IP address so computers can communicate with each other
Amazon Route 53 has integrated with Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) in order to easily let you map your root domain, or "zone apex" (e.g. mydomain.com without the 'www') directly to your Elastic Load Balancer. We’re excited that by integrating Elastic Load Balancing and Amazon Route 53, we’re offering our customers a solution that can be implemented in minutes while maintaining the high level of reliability that customers expect from Amazon Web Services.
