factors out code that saves source data for figures into a script that generates it, so that figure notebooks load the exact same source data files that are used in the article.

add article/src/scripts/generate_figure_source_data.py
add figure source data files generated by script
rewrite notebooks to use figure source data files
update figure files after re-running notebooks
