[BUG] Downloading as MP4s instead of FLAC #278

Which tool

tidal-gui **Version** newest **Platform** Windows **Bug description** It used to download files in FLAC when I selected "LOSSLESS" but now it downloads files in MP4. Is there a way to revert it back so it downloads in FLAC? Aside from MP4s being video files, I'm not certain as to the quality of an MP4 file with regard to audio. I'm just looking to convert to MP3 when it's all said and done and having FLAC files was the easiest way to do this. **Screenshot**

These are ALAC files.

sergiocos commented 4 years ago

Same here, HI RES setting gave me flac files, but LOSSLESS setting gave me .mp4 files everytime. Used to be flac.

KeatonTheBot commented 4 years ago

Same thing is happening to me.

tml3nr commented 4 years ago

Same thing for me. m4a (Apple lossless) instead of flac.

ALAC = FLAC = APE

Alac ---> Apple Lossless Audio Codec Flac ---> Free Lossless Audio Codec Ape ---> Monkey's Audio (It is Free too but, Monkey's Audio is owner of the licence)

Even if HI RES is chosen - if the file is not available in the hi res format - it will still download the normal FLAC.

Albums that are AAC 96kbps, but set to download at HI RES - will still be downloaded in the AAC format. At least that has been my experience so far with this program.

Probably has something to do with the phone token. For older iOS Tidal will use ALAC because FLAC wasn't supported. Apple only recently added support for FLAC on iOS. Desktop and Android would be FLAC. You can always convert ALAC to FLAC with zero quality loss, but it's a hassle.

KeatonTheBot commented 4 years ago

As a workaround, I found that if you want to download the HI RES FLAC version of an album, do a manual search for the artist and album name and see if there are two or more listings for the same (Master) album. The one that works is probably the ID you haven't tried yet.

Which is higher quality, HiRes or Lossless?

I want to download the master version of the track from Tidal.

Hi-res!

Please fix so that we get FLAC instead of ALAC/M4A files, when selecting "2-LOSSLESS". No-one really needs Apple Lossless in this day and age :)

KeatonTheBot commented 4 years ago

I tried a few albums, and it seems to be fixed with 2020.5.19.0.

fixed

@yaronzz I updated to the latest source code build and this issue still persists (tidal-dl). The program even downloaded a song as M4a, despite the settings saying not to convert mp4 to m4a, and this was all despite me originally trying to download a FLAC
