It works with an existing or new Openfire installation. Apache or Jetty is NOT
required. You only need Openfire with mySQL installed and running ok.

I did it on a new server with only Openfire and MySQL installed. I only used
Apache when the default installation did not work to see if it was a HTTP
error. It did not work in either case.

Take a look at your Openfire log files and see if you have any errors that may
be responsible for the web service failing on port 7070

The idea of creating an import tool for existing Openfire users is good. Many
thanks for that. Openfire has an import/export plugin for exporting user data
into XML. This could provide a good starting point for converting into SQL for
the WordPress wp_users table

Error loading plugin: /opt/openfire/plugins/inspired
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/mortbay/jetty/HandlerContainer
That's the error I have. Any ideas?

You either used the wrong file or I uploaded the wrong file. There is a zip
file for Openfire 3.6.4 and below and a different one for 3.7.0 and above.
Please let me know if the mistake is me as I use a customised version for
Openfire 3.6.4. I don't have 3.7.0 installed to test with

I use 3.7.0 and uploaded the correct version of your file. I think it may be
your mistake, as I tried twice.

My bad, sorry for that. I have uploaded latest version for 3.7.0

Thanks! I'm getting a new error now, though:
/inspired --->
WebAppContext@560086@560086/inspired,null,/opt/openfire/plugins/inspired
[stopped]
Shows up in the browser, and:
error in opening zip file
java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file
Shows up in the logs.

I downloaded OF 3.7.0 and tried it myself and it works for me.
java.util.zip.ZipException suggests that your inspired.war file could be
corrupted or broken

I re-downloaded and now have a new error in my log:
GET / HTTP/1.1

java.text.ParseException: GET / HTTP/1.1

I just created a fresh server (CentOS 5.6) with only MySQL and Openfire
installed. I still have the error, and it's a new server so it can't be
anything else. I can give you access to the server if you like? Then you can
see if anything is wrong with your script with Openfire 3.7.0.

Hi,
a quick fix about step 5:
instead of: "http://your_openfire-server:7070/wp-admin"
use : "http://your_openfire-server:7070/inspired/wp-admin"
hope that helps,

Hi,
i more less make it work (it displays)
http://social.sisdipe.com.br:7070/inspired/groups/create/step/group-details/
but i cant make friendship and or groups to test the minichat.
my idea was do exactly what you did, but using statusnet (heavilly based on
betwittered) instead of wordpress+buddypress.
i could launch japix as well, but now i have 2 options to play with.
the idea is to create a social enviroment for www.sisdipe.com.br
im not sure what will be our roadmap, but the overall is there. we will use
fastpath,jappix and some streaming support.
...customization here we go again.
as you may see here: http://blog.sisdipe.com.br/?page_id=274 , we allready
glued wordpress with the system and we do use sip stuff, that we would like to
extend to use redfire and in the future big blue button.
we had a hook https://www.sisdipe.com.br/para/pages/site/var/login_check.jsp
that gave me all i would like to grap from the loged user in json format, and i
alllready know how to externally create a wordpress user. (i still lost atm,
but erverything seems to be feasiable, i will need to study buddypress theme
layout better.
congrats for all yo have done so far, and any sugestions you may have is
welcomed.
for the momemnt, i wonder how much is not working from the sip+xmmp stuff.
and what would be the best way of glue all this togheter. (i will miss
statusnet thought, but i feel much more confortable with wordpress)
i didnt changed the permanlink as i allready have another server at port 80.
but i think my sleep will be with mind sponning. THANKS!
ps: dunno if i could use this also for ads comments like:
http://participantes.sisdipe.com.br/site/anuncios.php?conta=60918&ad_id=11
atm we are using diqus for that, but the long term idea was use statusnet.

ps3: that is the bettwiterd that i mentio, it shows statusnet potential (sadly
the author didnt opened the sources) and off-topic, i get a little worry using
erverything as openfire plugin, as i dont know how robust jetty is. i do use
tomcat as my main container (but never tried to put openfire there, deploy),
and im allready looking over glassfish (the resin java container seems to be
very good from the spec i read).
i preffer have the cross-host stuff working correctly (and, as you metioned,
the openfire bosh design update).
i had a long way till i can use openfire as i would lke (mostly i was thinking
of tweak directly the database as it doesnt have api for that [dont using the
console] and your new project will be a good study to see how did you glue
muc->groups and roster->friends [this sencond case would be a little diferent
as statusnet dont have friend, but followers], and as possible make sip stuff
open sip wide and xmmp open for google talk and facebook, msn i think it would
be imposible, but i would like to have at least one msn bot on the, so people
could msn me and it transport for my jabber account, though)

@jamie, thanks for correcting step 5
Jetty is a very good web server and scales very well. It is probably better
than Tomcat. I have used both in commercial applications. The glue I have used
is Quercus which allows PHP to run in Java. This enables me to connect
WordPress to Openfire.

i was aware about quercus (a very handy find, btw), i will study how you make
wordpress talk to openfire (i mean link group and user creations). a still very
obscure thing to me is the fastpath workgroup, as fas as i could see it a
private muc, but not sure, as i said i have enough files to play with, let see
how it envolve in the next months. (testing as standalone versus plugin). the
idea/concept i would like is quite exactly like your, mostly instead of
wordpress+buddypress i would like to use statusnet. (and all the main users and
stuff is from our site db, that will expose any needed info for external app
logins, transparent for the user, i hope) :)
again, very thanks for show me the path.
best wishes,
