I am trying to use HTCFlasher with my HTC S710 on my Ubuntu 9.10 desktop.
As far as I can see when I connect it the new device appear under
/dev/ttyUSB0 , but when I am trying to use  /usr/bin/HTCFlasher -i I get
the following :

=== Open source RUU for HTC devices

[] Getting device info...
[] Setting RUU mode, please wait............done
[!!] Your device can't be identified!

Please advice?

I had the same issue and rebooted into bootloader mode, and the device could be 
successfully identified.
