No sound on Dell Streak #25

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Set alarm
2. Wait for alarm to go off.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Alarm is silent despite settings for sound being on.
Vibrate does work but no sound.

Please include the following info:
Phone model? Dell Streak
Android Version? 1.6

Good app otherwise.

Kitchen Timer uses system notification to play the alarm sound: could you check 
what is the volume level of notifications on your phone?

Same problem on Samsung GalaxyS with Android 2.2 upgraded.
Notification volume is max.
