It would be very helpful if, when a timer has reached zero and alerts the user
with sound and blinking digits, if the timer started counting up from zero (it
can keep blinking and sending notification, too). Many regular digital kitchen
timers do this, and it's useful for a couple of reasons:
1) sometimes when the original timed period has expired, it's necessary to
continue cooking, mixing, etc. for a bit longer and the user wants to be able
to see how long that "extra time" is,
2) sometimes, even though the timer may reach zero, the user doesn't act
quickly enough and needs to compensate for the "extra time" before action is
taken, so it's important to know how much time has elapsed since the alarm
sounded. For example, I set a timer to remind me to flip a steak on the grill
after 4 minutes. But, for whatever reason, I don't react immediately to the
timer alert and when I flip the steak, more time has elapsed, so I need to
compensate for that extra time by reducing the time cooked on the other side
after flipping. Therefore, I need to know how much time has elapsed since the
alarm started sounding on the original timed period.
So, if you could have the timer count up, not just remain at zero, after an
alarm begins to sound, that would be very useful for many cooks.
