In this way his past contribution is mapped correctly, including collapsing two different ways of writing "ę" into one.

I'm not insisting. :) I prefer to have .mailmap around so that my in-Git personality is not split into multiple people with different surnames (this affects git blame for example) but if you decide not to include it, it's fine for me.
