I just today became aware that something is amiss with Smooth Gestures.

Is it true about the spying? Why was it pulled so late? Why is not uninstalled
automatically if it is pulled?

What happened with my data?

Felix here is the author's explanation:

on_that_spys_on/

I don't think they were spying. Sorry to see the extension go away.

Thanks. But this was written 8 months ago. Why was it pulled now. Did anything
new happen?

As far as my "research" shows, nothing happened. The author claimed to release
a new version without the stats collector code, but seems like he didn't do
that. The source code is available (though some files are obfuscated), so
someone could make a fork and continue support. It's under Creative Commons
License, as LICENSE file in the root of the source tree claims.

Don't look at me. I'm using StrokeIt now. It has the advantage to work also on
the settings page and on all other tabs as well. And in IE and the explorer
since it is a Windows desktop program.

I was mad at Google that it took them so long to pull the plug (if they did it
at all, might have been the author itself).
