Yalp store does not support app bundling #565

Closed godfuture closed 5 years ago

godfuture commented 5 years ago

I have installed simple gallery pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro) in Yalp Store.

As I was facing issues, I have raised a ticket (https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Gallery/issues/1115).

The developer mentioned that Yalp does not support app bundling. will this feature be supported soon?

Never a fan of +1'ing but I'm seeing this more and more. Can report the same for the Airbnb app and also IRCCloud.

Yes, actually no activity from maintainers...I guess we have enough information to start investigation. But no feedback so far.

I (or better say a user of Piwigo-Android) faced the same issue. The App is uploaded to g-play via app bundle, but after installing via yalp the downloaded apk doesn't fit the target device. I. e. the wrong resources are included.

In the long run for sure our app will be in f-droid (starting with the first stable release) redering the use of yalp not so important anymore, but for now this is causing trouble...

ramack commented 5 years ago

I don't see the relation to root. And many people use yalp on non-rooted devices. Did you try on a device that is not using xhdpi resolution?

daradib commented 5 years ago

Same issue as #547 (app bundling contains split APKs)

godfuture commented 5 years ago

I am using root install and still have this issue with app bundling. Fact is that sometimes, if I keep repeating to install, I get the app to work. This is really strange...

octoghost commented 5 years ago

What about using SAI to install the splitted APKs? I tried and it works for me without root. Has anyone else tried it?

Whisprin commented 5 years ago

@octoghost Yes, SAI works for me too. Compiled it myself and it gets the job done

godfuture commented 5 years ago

Just to let you know...what helped me is to delete all previous apk files in Yalp download folder before updating my apps. This is even easier if you have created a separate folder for Yalp downloads.

This should not be stale. It's still a problem. I don't have root privileges and I still can't install split apks. Just making the issue stale doesn't fix the problem.

Also-ran not only can I not find SAI via Yalp Store but apparently it still doesn't install split apk files.

Please fix the problem.

godfuture commented 5 years ago

I downloaded SAI from github and tried to install split apks. It simply does not work: https://github.com/Aefyr/SAI/issues/3

Devs upload their code once, and do not intend to maintain. What do they want? Money? Help? Credit? Begging? No feedback so far. From both of them...

We keep indicating that the problem needs fixing but no one does anything and then the closed stale message arrives. The problem is still there but it goes stale because of the lack of action by the developers. That is not very helpful nor professional.

Still nothing has been done.

Very poorly supported app.

I guess the only chance is to fork the app and find a new maintainer. Ask people that know to develop in Java, if they take the job.

Aspire1Inspire2 commented 5 years ago

This issue is very critical on non-root device. It seems to me that nobody is maintaining the repo for more than half a year now.

needless to say that is indeed still an issue.

davrsky commented 5 years ago

For anyone watching -- the Aurora Store does seem to support bundled (split) apks, was able to install an app that Yalp will not install
