Diff Dates returning NULL #625

The issue was in the discussion list but not in the issues. I just encounter 
the same today: 

I'm trying to find the number of days difference between two dates using 
Refine.  I know I can do it by doing the subtraction and division with the 
dates as seconds, but it seems like the diff command is supposed to work for 
this.  For example:

diff("10/12/2012".toDate(),"10/14/2012".toDate(), "days")
or
diff("10/12/2012".toDate(),"10/10/2012".toDate(), "days")

I would expect to see 2, but it just gives me null.
