thumb.php script not working on wordpress site hosted by godaddy

I recently started using the Thrilling Theme on wordpress which uses
thumb.php to resize pictures.  Instead of the featured photo for the blog
post showing up, a link to the blog post shows up. You can see that here
(notice the orange link above the main title - it should be the location of
the photo):

My host is godaddy - so the fixes people have been using with Hostgator
aren't working for me (I have contacted godaddy twice and they say it is an
issue with wordpress or the script, but not godaddy).

I am using the most recent version of wordpress and of the Thrilling Theme.

Update - I have a multiple domain hosting account. The above account is a 
subdomain.
If I put the photo into my main domain account - and use that url... it works 
fine.
The issue must have something to do with main domain account vs. subdomains.  
You can
delete this issue.

Some godaddy users it working by changing the $doc_root from a $_SERVER 
variable to
their absolute path.  ie /home/public_html/blah.com
