Regarding the implementation detail. Should it come along with grade buttons or
replace the grade buttons?

Grade buttons should stay I think. After comparing typed answer with a correct
one, you should be able to choose how bad/good your spelling and memory was,
and put the world in repeat queue. I'm thinking about similiar feature in Anki
- in flashcards settings you may choose an flashcard layout that "request to
write an answer".

I couldn't get AnkiDroid's spelling working.
Do you mean AnyMemo do not need to compare the result?
Also does this mean drawing is ok?

I was offline so sorry for the late answer. Secondly my english is rather poor
and may lead to some misunderstuding. The "spelling" feature is in the desktop
version of anki - you need to go into repeat and then card layout -> ask me
for writting an answer (or something similiar I cant check it now, my pc is
down).
Drawing is a way around, it make work, but is less convenient and only partial
solution, typing would be better I think.

Let me first make the drawing work and then add typing as an addition later.

New paint function is in 10 beta 3 that can save.
Gestures can invoke the paint function.

What ticket is for the addition of typing/writing answers?
Also, Ankidroid does support typing answers, I dont use Ankidroid often but it
must be enabled somewhere in the settings.
