Bug report function to be added to the Members Platform #149

Open UMRUKA1 opened 2 years ago

UMRUKA1 commented 2 years ago

Feature description

It would be good to add a report bug button or just contuct us field to be able to report bugs and request other features on the Members Platform directly, instead of using GitHub

Problem and motivation

In order to report a problem, I had to go to another website, spend a fair amount of time opening an account on GitHub, share my email with them. And my captcha was to select a spiral galaxy from 6 pictures of similar galaxies ... I swear, I spent a lot of time researching the types of galaxies while my only intention was to report an issue for the Members Platform.

Is this something you're interested in working on

Thanks! We've discussed this and we believe that the collaborative nature of GitHub is a better fit for this procedure, given that we want to share the issues and suggestions with a wider community of EYPers, and support transaprency.

Hi, I do really appreciate the dev-friendly approach and indeed, github is the best platform for discussing any code's features, bug reports etc. without any doubts :)

However, I would partly support @UMRUKA1 here. Github is mostly a dev platform and environment. I think it is indeed kind of unfriendly to people outside dev community to force them to sign up to github in order to submit a simple feature request or feedback. Functionality of providing feedback should never be conditioned by signing up to yet another third party provider (from the perspective of the user).

To provide a good example that could be a compromise here (seeing this issue is not closed, only has the also unorthodox "wonfix" label :D) – it is not contradictory, providing the functionality suggested here and having it organised on github. See how one of my fav github projects, AltTab, does it – https://github.com/lwouis/alt-tab-macos/issues/1195 – it has the proposed form in the MacOS app (you can provide your e-mail to be notifified and given more instructions) and it is submitted by "a bot" to the repo's Issues. No forcing users to sign up to github.

P.S. This is perhaps the first time I see a repo solely for the purpose of discussing issues of some other (private) repo, very unorthodox. Following github ethics, I think, this should be happening in the repo with the code.

On stats.eyp.org we link to https://gitreports.com/issue/eyp-developers/statistics which allows anyone to submit real GitHub issues without a GitHub account

This could possibly be a compromise by adding it as an additional option to regular issue submission
