Two places for organisation name #70

Open rolfkleef opened 10 years ago

Under "Settings" I can enter a Reporting Organisation Name (including a language indicator, but add versions in multiple languages) and an Organisation Type.

Under "Organisation data" > "Reporting Organisation" I can not change the Organisation Type but I can add a Name (without language indication).

When changing info under "Settings", I get a confusing pop-up, with the question "Do you want to update your activities and publish them?". If I cancel that, the Settings and Organisation Data start to be out-of-sync. If I confirm, the organisation data is actually not published.

It is also unclear what happens with the multiple "Name" fields, and how they relate to "Organisation Name".

It's slightly confusing as @rolfkleef has rightly pointed out. We will make the "reporting organisation" block consistent in both activitiy-data and organisation-data. And also include the text (with link to settings) that they may change the reporting-org information from settings page only.

Currently when the user cancels the popup after changing the reporting-org info, we have on purpose not updated the reporting-org info in both activities and organisation-data. What do you suggest? Do we let the system change all the instances of reporting-org in activities and organisation-data but only publish if they click "ok" and not-publish if they cancel. @rolfkleef ?

The question "Do you want to update your activities and publish them?" suggests a two-step process:

  1. Update existing records with the new name (y/n)
  2. Re-publish the updated records that were already published (y/n)

I'm not sure what the case is for not updating existing records, and I'm not sure what the case is for not re-publishing updated records that have been published already. (The question is confusing because it suggests it might publish not-yet--published records after the update.)

If the two steps are meant to go together as a confirmation question, maybe it should be something like:

"The new name will be used in new activities you add. Do you also want to update your existing activities (this includes activitites already published)?"

Maybe we shouldn't allow organisations to have different reporting-org in two different activities from their single account, since we don't see why would organisations do that. So any change in "settings->reporting-org" should mean changing all their instances. Then the question should be whether to re-publish the already published activities or just change the state to edit and they do the manual publishing later. What's your say?

I think this is resolved now. They can only change the reporting-org from settings only.

Ok, two suggestions:

1) There currently is no indication on the Organisation Data > Reporting Organisation page that you need to go to "settings" to change this. (If no other options exist, perhaps that can be mentioned as the help text for each element.) I think this is important to help people find their way.

2) It is possible to "add more" narrative elements for the name but you can't edit anything (and there is no "Save" button). Technically it is possible to offer your organisation's name in multiple languages, but if it is not supported, it would make sense to also remove the "add more" and "remove this" links. This is not a big issue, though.
