@isabellenastasia seems that PayPal doesn't like users handling the paying in their own site

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6397815/paypal-transaction-inside-a-modal

A modal is that popup the shows up on top of the site and can be closed. On Oct 21, 2013 10:13 AM, "IsabelleNastasia" notifications@github.com wrote:

maybe we will make a costume page specifically for becoming members.

maybe instead of 'DONATE' it should be 'BECOME A MEMBER' or something?!

We could do that!

Colorlines has a cool one: https://arc.secure.force.com/checkout?rurl=colorlines.com/donationthankyou/&camid=70140000000TLfm

but it seems very complicated and I don't know how they did it.

Great. Basic donate button is very easy from the looks of it: https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/paypal-payments-standard/ht_pps-donateButton/

mayarichman commented 10 years ago

@IsabelleNastasia

So currently page is at http://youngist.github.io/clean-blog/donate/ and will provide a pay now button, maybe a description of where it goes roughly and philosophy about paying contributors (unlike other places). Is there a way for people to buy merch too?

I'll need the paypal info to make the button work.

Copy via @IsabelleNastasia

"In the past year since Youngist launched, we’ve published nearly 300 stories by young people across the globe, and the enthusiastic response has blown all of us away. We’ve grown to upwards of 18,000 readers/month, and our stories have been picked up by everyone from TruthOut and The Nation, to The Daily Beast and Cosmo. Readers can tell we’re different; our contributors are not just writing about movements, they’re helping lead them.

Youngist exists thanks to money from people who believed in us, people like you, and we wish to continue bringing you content that inspires.

We’ve been bootstrapping it, but we also take pride in paying our contributors for their hard work, sometimes the first paid writing gig they’ve ever had. Just as Youngist provides a vital answer to Millennial-bashing in mainstream media narrative, such modest compensation is vital in a mediascape where young writers’ labor is routinely exploited.

But because Youngist has grown faster than we could ever have hoped, we’re also running out of money for our writers faster than we ever anticipated.

We know that it’s the end of the year and budgets are tight, but if you’ve read, and loved, a Youngist story this year – consider chipping in as a thank-you for a job well done, or an investment in expanding this great content’s reach."
