Very weird.
One thought -- it was possible (in Versions 7 and 8) to end up with Forkyz appearing twice in your open apps list (or recent apps or app history or whatever). This would happen if you opened a puzzle from the file browser.
Under the hood, Forkyz can only hold one active puzzle, so you could have "show errors" set on one open Forkyz. Then, when you switch to the other, the UI might be out of date with the "show errors" status.
I think i have "fixed" that in Version 9 by making Forkyz close if it is opened elsewhere.
If it is happening on Version 9, perhaps looking if you have two copies of Forkyz in your app history might help -- or maybe you can cause it by opening Forkyz in two different ways.
Version 10 has slightly different show errors features (grid and cursor), so you might want to try that one. But that might mean you get two variations of the same bug :) I think Version 10 isn't on F-Droid yet, but you can try an in-development Version 11 by downloading the APK in the comments in #26. I don't think it will fix the error though.
Thanks for the response!
I've only been using the app for a few weeks it's version 9 from fdroid and I've not used previous versions. It comes up repeatedly, not just once. Maybe I should not have submitted an issue without finding the circumstances under which it happens. I will keep an eye out and see if I can find when it happens. I launch from nova launcher and then just keep it open and switch to it. While we're here, is there a way to make the puzzle scroll when you type off the edge of the screen? It does it on shortyz but I can't seem to find an option to do it here.

It's good to flag it up (thanks!), others might have the same problem. And some errors don't happen reliably anyway. For the moment i can't think what would be causing it, so it's hard to do much about it. Let me know if any of the thoughts in my previous post make sense or look familiar when it happens again.
Do you use "show errors" normally? Might help to know if it's completely out of the blue, or more of a mix up of past state.

The "snap to current word" should be the right behaviour. At least it works for me -- but could be another issue :)
Oh, and if you could try older versions, that would help narrow down when the problem started. Thanks.

That works, thank you
I always play with show errors off but switch it on sometimes when its more difficult. The issue hasn't come up now of course since I've submitted but I'll keep an eye out for it.

Great :)

I do the same. Sometimes i forget to turn it off, but i haven't seen errors show while the UI says its off. I'll keep an eye out too.
Hi It just happened, the app had been open today, just now I was doing some duolingo, then used the browser, then Reddit is fun, then I switched to forkyz and as you see in the screenshot, errors are highlighted but the check box is off. It's not a big deal I'm just happy I can show I'm not crazy!
Nice.
I realised version 10 is not on F-Droid because i forgot to tag it. I've done that now and maybe it will be out in a week or so.
Could you report back if the problem continues? I changed the way the options menu is built, so perhaps it will stay up to date now.
Did you use show errors sometime recently, or was it out of the blue?
Show Errors mode switches on even though it is off. In that case the orange tick box is not highlighted but Errors are still shown. Tapping the (grey)tick box switches show Errors mode off. I've been trying to recreate the error, I think it has to do with switching apps or locking the phone, I'm not sure. This is on Android 10. Thanks a lot for making the app it's great
