some malformed stacks crashing during update check #750

some stacks that pass through the gauntlet of stack initialization -- and seem to pass -- but for whatever reason fail to have a valid bundle when the update is started -- cause sparkle to crash

although i've seen a carefully crafted example of this using stacks api security encryption. i am not aware of another way to create this bug.

however there are two reports of this crash in the wild. this is very curious.
