"Virtual Keyboard" menu item does not work #79

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start amsynth (confirmed it is using alsa midi and not oss)
2. Select amsynth menu item -> Utils -> Virtual Keyboard
3. The item is greyed out.
4. vkeybd is installed and can be launched from the command line and connected 
   manually in jack to amsynth and works perfectly.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

* I expect the menu item to be selectable and start vkeybd.
* The menu item is not selectable and will not start vkeybd.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

* amsynth version 1.4.0.
* Slackware-14.1 Linux kernel 3.10.17

I think this is a duplicate of issue 68:

This was fixed in version ~1.4.2
