Cannot upgrade to new firmware #603

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I am using 3.0.2.6-018 on the RT-N56U and cannot upgrade/downgrade to other
versions of the firmware. It uploads and then complains the image file is not
valid.

"Firmware upgrade fail. It may result from incorrect image or error
transmission. Please check the version of firmware and try again."

Happens whatever version I try.

Check the firmware version - N56 or N65 download

Neither of the firmwares work - I cannot even downgrade to previous working
firmwares.

I see there is a new build and will try that when I get home.

I have tried updating to N56U_3.0.3.1-027 and it won't update with the same
message as I described previously. It seems the CRC check is broken and I
cannot downgrade or upgrade.

Can I update over SSH?

I have tried to use the ASUS restoration utility but it does not work. Firstly,
it fails to install correctly and when I did manage to unpack it and run the
restore utility it fails to find my device and says it is not restore mode,
despite the router being in restore mode with the blinking power LED. I set my
IP to 192.168.1.10 like it suggests in the instructions.

There must be a way I can fix this issue through SSH if you can direct me
because, for now, I am completely stuck on this firmware.

I have the same issue with an RT-n56u running 3.0.3.3-045. I have tried to
update the firmware from three browsers (chrome, firefox, ie) on two PCs. I
tried with all released firmwares up to and including 058; the result is the
same: "Firmware update fail". I have even tried the latest ASUS official
firmware, no luck. Finally, I tried updating from my tabled with the same
result.

From here it looks like the upload is incomplete, but I'm not sure. I'm sure
there must be a way to trigger this via SSH instead of the (unreliable for me)
web interface. Does anyone know?

You must extract the zip and use the .trx file. Ran into the same issue today.
Stupid me.

When I locate the .trx file and click upload nothing happens. I am connected to
the n56U through a tethered connection via my Blackberry 10 device, since
Windows won't connect to the router properly. Any solutions?
