This is happening on the All the Mods pack both in the testing server and in singleplayer. mods.curse.com/modpacks/minecraft/242462-all-the-mods

does it not happen in a vanilla furnace?

It does not, you still get cactus green in a vanilla furnace.

how would it hit my item, though, which doesn't even have any other recipe to hit?
