f bug in Gmail #11

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to gmail.com.
2. Click on "Compose."
3. Click on the message body.
4. Type "f", then press one of the following keys: dsemckawfgjl.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is "f" followed by the second key that was typed. The key
pressed immediately after the "f" doesn't appear.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Vimium 1.36 on Firefox 12 on Windows 7.

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm using the Colemak keyboard layout, though that shouldn't make any
difference.

gmail.com doesn't behave quite as nicely as that, unfortunately. If you hit the
escape key, you lose focus on the input box so that you can use the gmail
keyboard shortcuts or tab to the action buttons for the message.

A simple way to work around this problem might be to provide a site blacklist
where the user can enter URLs for which vimium should become passive and not do
anything with keyboard input.

I have the same problem. I love Vimium but I'm afraid I'll have to disable it.

By the way, Gmail is not the only website with this problem. Gmail uses a
special javascript-enabled editable iframe for composing emails and any other
website using this technique is affected by this bug. This afternoon I stumbled
across the comment form of this website http://forum.sourcefabric.org which is
affected too.

True; I imagine many sites are affected. Outlook Web App is also difficult to
use with vimium.

It is true that this works fine in Vimium with Chrome, but I am on a work
computer and can only use explorer or firefox. I use vimium with chrome on my
personal computer and like it a lot. vimium for chrome also has an option to
exclude specific urls. adding that option would provide an easy workaround for
this problem on many sites, not just gmail.

(btw, though this specific problem is not an issue in vimium for chrome, vimium
does get in the way of the j/k keyboard shortcuts for navigating through
messages, so it is still useful to exclude gmail in the vimium options)

Fixed that (please check for rev. 22 in downloads).
