In order to prevent the creation of too many teams, we should prevent users from creating multiple single or two-player teams with the same members, treating these singles and doubles teams in a special way (and without special naming).

Nice, so we no longer create duplicate single-player teams for each player?

Oh I thought it was data validation for making sure you can't play yourself. Never mind I'll open it back up

Short terms goals:

[ ] For each player created, create a team whose teamid that is "TEAM".
[ ] If the team is a singleton team, use the player's own team exclusively (esp. at match logging, tournament creation, etc.
