The MR3040 firmware that contains can be located here:
http://dslrdashboard.info/downloads/
Flash instructions can be found here:
http://dslrdashboard.info/tp-link-mr3040-openwrt-flash/
Here with images: http://lrtimelapse.com/gear/dslrdashboard/
If you can ping the router then you didn't brick it. Does the firmware that you
flashed has the web interface packages? Can you access the router with telnet
or ssh?

I watched the Zaho video DSLR-Dashboard using MR3040 and believed the
file name for the flash upgrade was
"openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory".
From the Downloads selection available, I was uncertain what was the
correct file to download.
As a result, I did a google search and downloaded it from
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3040?)
The video was obviously made some time ago and the download file
organisation has been upgraded.
I thought this was strange at the time I would need to do this, I did
initially download V2 factory image but thought it was not correct.
(File size is correct!)
"ddserver-openwrt-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory-0.13.bin" Version 2 is
required as I have the 3 position switch.
TP-Link MR3040 ddserver OpenWrt firmware
V0.2-13
MR3040 version V1 V2
factory
*V1 factory image
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxMZ8XY3H2wiMFZMMlNXNkRYYzQ/edit?usp=sharing>*
*V2 factory image
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxMZ8XY3H2wiWTJmVVFfVDY0Mzg/edit?usp=sharing>*
It appears, I have downloaded the incorrect file, or downloaded an old
version.
I will try telnet, but am not sure how to update the flash with the new
file at this stage.
I use Visual Studio and SQL server but will get a bit of help today
using Telnet and SSH.
Thanks for the reply.

while in ssh you can try this:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/generic.sysupgrade
replace the firmware URL to the ddserver OpenWrt sysupgrade URL that matches
your device.
