It would be neat, if the interface would allow basic cross linking:

When in a channel clicking on a users name should open a private conversation with that person
When a channel (prefixed with #) is mentioned, then that should link to the channel.

Update: It seems like channels (and external links) are correctly displayed when receiving messages - however when sending messages the links are not added correctly.
