You probably want to match what is in kinetic and what was added by the bugfix in 5d951c15.

Perhaps split this into two PR's, one for the default_power_status in one commit which I can cherry-pick (or you can send a second PR) to kinetic, and one for the matching bugfix backported to indigo.
