I have this problem too: I'm using MenuMeters on M1 MacMinis, a Mac Pro (the 2013 model), other Intel MacBooks Pros - all running Monterey, all fine.
I've installed it on a new 14" MacBook M1 Pro, and nothing appears, although the process is running.
Run from console, the output (in its entirety) is:
$ ./Contents/MacOS/MenuMeters

Ah - but I've just seen https://github.com/yujitach/MenuMeters/issues/257
… which is for an older version :(
I'm trying to run 2.1.6.1.
I've just found something interesting - on a 14" M1 Pro on macOS 12.1, if "Show CPU Temperature
" or "Graph
" are selected, nothing is rendered at all. With both of these disabled, the Percentage
, Vertical Bar
, and Horizontal Bar
options do appear to work.
I suspect that the issue is due to these latest laptops being Apple M1 chips ... has this app been updated to support interrogating this new hardware profile ?
I've the same problem. My iMac is with Intel-chips
I've the same problem on the M1 Pro
Same error here in a M1 Pro machine. After downgrading to v2.1.5 it works well. It has to be something related to the changes on the next 2 releases.
Just tried 2.1.5 and 2.1.6.1 and with rosetta turned on and off.
One or both of these briefly displays a memory graph and some other icon, but within 1 sec, disappears.
Has anyone gotten this to work with MacBook Pro 16 with M1 Max ?
Hi! 2.1.6.1 brought the functionalities back. I'm sorry to hear that is for not everyone else the case.Bernhard

Solved! 2.1.6.1 did it.
@bernano397 - did you get it working on an M1 / M1 Max ?
I have only an Intel one, sorry.Bernhard

The Version 2.1.6.1 still displays nothing in the menu on top, it is empty. Running Monterey 12.1 here with x86 (aka. intel) CPU.
Oh btw: my Displays are all "external"
I show this (appendix)

Could it be a notch problem rather than an M1 or monterey problem? Could it simply depend on whether there is enough space in the menu bar to the right of the notch to display all which is selected to display? i suspect few and small icons are displayed, but large icons are not, and they even make other icons (in my case the rowmote helper app) disappear.
+1 - I think it totally went away with the latest 12.2
+1 - I think it totally went away with the latest 12.2
?? 12.2 ??
I can reproduce this bug on my M1 MBP, MacOS 12.1. Tried rolling back to various versions . . . eventually, I started getting a glimpse of the meters in the menu bar, but they would disappear quickly.
Well ... quite hilarious it seems, that it works PERFECTLY fine on a MBP M1 Max ... on OTHER displays. The notch seems to be the issue. I have 3 external displays, ALL of them show menu meters perfectly fine, but the MBP does not. So, just add a 2nd display ... lol.
Sorry for my inaction; I've been busy for the last few months.
I'm slowly trying to fix the situation on new M1 Macbook Pros with notch.
As for non-notched Macs, I have no idea why MenuMeters doesn't show up. If you encounter this bug, could you do killall -6 MenuMeters
from the command line? It should force-quit MenuMeters and generate a Crash Report, which you can paste it here. This might help me guess the situation.
I have three Macs (all updated to Monterey, some M1 and some intel) but MenuMeters all work OK; the bug I can't reproduce locally is the most difficult bug to fix...

@yujitach facing this issue with an M1 max (16'', notched), macos monterrey 12.1, menumeters 2.1.6.1. Something interesting is that it only breaks if I select, for CPU, Percentage and/or Graph, and
(and this is the part I didn't see in the comments above) in "show" I pick something that would display more than one unit. I.e., if I pick either the sum or the average of all cores, it works fine.
as i mentioned, it just depends on whether there is enough space in the menu bar to the right of the notch. if you have some other icons there, this space is just too small to display more than one menu meter item.
I'm with @grischlibaer, it's a notch space issue.
To prove this yourself: disable all meters except hard disk (with arrows) and the hd meter will probably show.
To free some space: try if you can switch "System Settings > Users & Groups > Login Options > Show fast user switching menu as" to Icon
Apparently yes, that's the case @jthln, @grischlibaer . If I plug an external monitor CPU graphs show up fine (in the external monitor). So, apparently if macos doesn't have enough space to show something, it doesn't display it all (instead of e.g. just cropping it).
I recommend installing hidden bar. It lets you regain some space from the top bar.
Worked fine on my M2 until I upgraded to Ventura.
Since using "the average of all cores" option in the CPU tab brings back the menumeters on Ventura, Ventura must be taking up a bit more space on the menubar.
I would assume this is same issue as with Catalina and Big Sur.
Did a build locally and ran and showing some logging output, but no UI.
I do have it working on Catalina on another machine.
