To expand on the above, the microphone works elsewhere with SHIELD Experience 9.0/Android 11. It works with Google Assistant on the Shield TV launcher, and when the microphone icon is clicked on Gboard (the new default keyboard in SHIELD Experience 9.0) after moving the cursor into the search bar.
The problem is that, with SHIELD Experience 9.0, there is no more instant voice search when voice search is activated in SmartTubeNext. Clicking on SmartTubeNext's microphone icon (not the above-mentioned Gboard one) does not enable the microphone, and the icon does not turn red either.
While, as stated, voice search still works through Gboard, doing so is no longer instantaneous as was the case before SHIELD Experience 9.0; moving the cursor right, up, and click on the mic icon is required.
Good News I figured it out :)
You have to go to the Shield TV apps settings and then click on SmartTubeNext, Permissions and then enable the Microphone for SmartTubeNext.
So it's not a bug in SmartTubeNext and instead Android 11 just disabled it after upgrading to it for some reason.
Thank you for finding that. There is still a difference in behavior, though, with Android 11. I have to click on the large round microphone icon to voice search, even though "Instant voice search" is enabled.
You are right the "Instant voice search" is not working.
Hopefully it can be fixed.
Does the 60fps video play smoothly?
I have seen no change in playback behavior.
I can confirm the above behavior after the latest update.
No change in behavior with 14.05. I can also confirm #1260.

Same
Instant voice search is now, after the recent fixes, working again (sometimes with a one-second pause, for some reason). The one exception is initiating voice search from a "Search results for" screen.
I just upgraded my Shield TV Pro 2019 Model to SHIELD Experience 9.0 "Android 11" and now the Microphone does not work on the search button.
Can you fix this please?
