Checklist

Affected version

24.61 and Stable

Device Type

Smart TV/Box

Affected Android

Android TV 9

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Install beta or stable version of app.
  2. Do not be logged into an account.
  3. Have at least 65 channels pinned to sidebar.
  4. Search via the search bar and add 3 channels to sidebar.
  5. Reorder channels in sidebar via a mix of holding down the remote button on "Move channel up/down" (so that the channel moves multiple spaces on its own) and clicking the button to move it up/down once.
  6. Begin to see no channels loading content, instead throw error "emitGroups: BrowseTab of type 0 is null."
  7. See this error appear on Home, Trending, Shorts, etc.

Actual behavior

Every tab will show the error "emitGroups: BrowseTab of type 0 is null." Search does not work, throws general "here's how to troubleshoot" error. The app is unusable at all, error still appears after cache/data clear, reinstallation, installation of stable version, installation on new device.

Additional information

Reproducible on Android phone (LG v60, Android 13) as well, but ONLY on wifi connection - not cellular data. Android TV Hisense. Wifi connection is wifi6 at 195 mbps download. No connection changes made today and have never had issues on this connection before. Since it is reproducible on two devices - one of which has never had any version of the app installed - it seems like there's some error happening in the space between my wifi network requesting data and the app accepting the request - maybe I was reorganizing my channels too quickly and triggered some sort of "too many requests" flag in the app? (idk if that exists but it seems like the sort of failsafe that would be triggered, esp since it loads fine on cellular data on 2nd device but not on wifi on 2nd device.) Please let me know if you need additional details such as my IP or whatnot, in case a flag does need to be cleared 😅

Edit 20 hours later: On the "Shorts" and "Trending" tabs, I get emitGroups2: groups are null or empty" error. Probably the same error though.

I have tried the following troubleshooting methods:

Same here. I also noticed connection problems when browsing youtube.com using Firefox. Might be a server side issue. Update: Seems to be working again, both youtube webpage and SmartTube...

I am also getting this same issue, been happening to me since last night

I now sometimes get "emitGroups2: groups are null or empty" error on tabs like Shorts or Trending - likely the same error, just different text.

I've encountered the same issue as well, after reordering the channels on the sidebar. All devices on the same network have trouble loading now.

I'm getting 429 responses on all devices now. Could it be that reordering does an excessive amount of requests and youtube just rate limits?

Same issue for me after updating. Spinning up a VPN on the shield fixes it. I'm running AdGuard, still investigating if this could be the source of the problem as nothing suspicious gets blocked.

Edit: DNS doesn't seem to be the cause for the problem

Everything started working after 24hrs, no more 429 responses

I'm only getting this error on 1 of the 3 accounts I'm signed in with. I logged that user out then back in and same problem. I see a new version dropped this morning. Will try it here in a bit.
